Paraguay is a country without a sea and without white beaches, but which enthuses the tourists with its flora and fauna as well as the people's kindness. About 350'000-400'000 tourists visit Paraguay every year, spending about 145 millions of US$. Most of the tourists are coming from the neighbouring states Argentina and Brazil, and they stay only for one day. They are coming with the intention to buy well-known brands of whiskies, perfumes and cigarettes as well as textiles and Asiatic electronics. Those tourists spend more or less 600 millions of US$ which binds some 300'000 jobs. About 17% of the tourists are from Europe and about 3% from the USA.
Near-by Asunción (approx. 45 km) is situated the lake Ypacarai which is the most preferred resort of the Paraguayans through the months of November - March. The lake does not very much invite to bathe (very warm) but it is ideal to go by boat, yet-skis or windsurfing. Ashore there are splendid clubs and good hotels. Considered as a special adventure is the ride on the oldest train of South America, from Asunción to Ypacarai (every Sunday). The locomotive is driven by steam and circles with a speed of 20 km/h. Its history and detailed information about that train and many pictures you will find on our new CD "The Train of Paraguay".

the greates waterfalls in the world, the Catarates de Iguazú, in Foz de Iguazú, in Brazil; and the greatest hidroelectric power plant in the world, the Itaipú dam. This can be visited either in Paraguay or in Brazil.
A very relaxing experience is the visit on a ranch, where you can go on horse-back and sit by the fire with the cowboys, barbecueing and listening to the noise produced by the nature. There are some ranches carried on by Germans, good food and very clean. We can highly recommend the Hotel "Gabriela", situated in a marvellous and green region.
Worth a visit and very interesting to see are the Jesuitical ruins, the silent witnesses of a very flourishing epoch in Paraguay. Near there is the fourth biggest hidroelectric power plant, called Yacyreta, built by Argentina and Paraguay. For adventurer who love the nature we recommend a trip in the Chaco, with a multitud of animals and with hughe ranches.
